Social Media and Mental Health

Social media, while essential for communication and community building, poses complex mental health challenges, especially for youth and adults. This training explores social media’s dual-edged sword effect on mental health, highlighting research-backed harms like depression, anxiety, cyberbullying, and body image issues, alongside its potential benefits such as fostering positive connections and self-expression. It emphasizes the critical role parents play in guiding their children’s social media use by modeling healthy behavior, monitoring content, and encouraging constructive interactions. The goal is to equip individuals with a nuanced understanding of social media’s impact and strategies to promote healthier online habits, advocating for a balanced approach to leveraging technology for mental well-being.
