World Suicide Prevention Day Vigil of Remembrance in Lindsay hosted by CMHA HKPR, John Howard Society and Community Care Kawartha Lakes

Date: September 10, 2023

Time: 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Location: Old Mill Park, 16 Kent St E, Lindsay, ON

The Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (CMHA HKPR), John Howard Society and Community Care Kawartha Lakes invite the public to attend a vigil of remembrance for World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th at Old Mill Park in Lindsay from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Approximately 4,000 Canadians die by suicide each year and it is the second-most common cause of death among young people ages 15 to 24. While we continue to learn how the pandemic has impacted suicide rates, we know that the COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the lives of Canadians, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and loneliness. Notably, one in four Canadians aged 18 to 34 reported a need for mental health care.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes, John Howard Society and CMHA HKPR are hosting a vigil of remembrance to remember those who have died by suicide. The organizations will also provide information on the supports that are available in our region. World Suicide Prevention Day raises awareness about suicide, mental health concerns and suicide prevention.

“We want to honor those who have died by suicide and let people who have been impacted by suicide or are struggling with thoughts of suicide to know that there is help available. While it can be a difficult day, Sunday is a reminder that you’re not alone. Everyone is welcome at the event on September 10th,” says Jack Veitch, Manager of Community Engagement and Education with CMHA HKPR.

Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis are encouraged to contact Four County Crisis at 705-745-6484 or toll-free at 1-866-995-9933.

For more information on the event, please contact Jack Veitch at 705-748-6687 extension 1015 or email jveitch@cmhahkpr.ca.
