In Memory of Judy Dickson

The Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (CMHA HKPR) was saddened to learn of the passing of Judy Dickson, a tireless advocate for community-based mental health care in Kawartha Lakes. Judy passed away recently after a lifetime of dedicated service.

As one of the founding board members of CMHA Victoria County (later renamed CMHA Kawartha Lakes, and now CMHA HKPR), Judy played an integral role in shaping mental health care in our community for decades. Judy was the first serving President of the Board for CMHA Victoria County in 1988.

Throughout her remarkable career, Judy was an unwavering champion for community-based mental health services. Her tireless advocacy helped bring vital support and resources to those struggling with mental illness in our region.

Judy’s work has made a profound impact on generations of residents’ lives and families. In 2017, Judy was recognized by CMHA HKPR as the winner of the Naresh James Award for her advocacy and her impact on services provided to those living with mental health issues, along with friends and families.

Judy’s influence extends far beyond her own time on the board. She helped lay the foundation for CMHA HKPR, which continues to provide critical mental health services today. Her legacy can be seen in every program, service, and support offered by the organization she helped establish. Judy Dickson will be profoundly missed, but her impact on mental health care in our region will continue to be felt for generations to come.
