Canadian Mental Health Association Durham Launches New Corporate and Workplace Education Program

The Canadian Mental Health Association Durham (C.M.H.A. Durham) is pleased to announce the launch of their new Corporate and Workplace Education Program. The program, which launched this January, consists of custom designed sessions surrounding mental health in the workplace. With more organizations recognizing the value of mentally healthy workers, C.M.H.A. Durham offers The Corporate and Workplace Education Program to organizations across the Durham Region.
The program consists of a range of courses specially designed to provide skills for leadership to support staff, as well as to provide skills to staff supporting clients, patients, and consumers. The following courses are available through the program:
- Mental Distress: Recognition and Response- Participants learn about the difference between mental health and mental illness, as well as the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Participants also learn about a variety of mental illnesses, including common symptoms and presentation and simple verbal de-escalation techniques and communication strategies.
- Mental Health Works- An evidence-based, solutions focused program with four modules centered on health and mental health at work, mood and depression at work, stress and anxiety at work, and psychological health and safety at work.
- Psychological Health and Safety Advisors- Available to help support workplaces in adhering to Canada’s Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
The Corporate and Workplace Education Program also offers more in-depth certificate training on a wide range of mental health issues. Certificate training is offered in the following:
- Applied Suicide Intervention Training (ASIST) – The two-day workshop is for individuals who want to feel more confident in helping prevent the immediate risk of suicide.
- Living Life to the Full- This eight-session, 12-hour, evidence-based mental health promotion course is designed to help individuals deal with everyday challenges and improve quality of life.
- Suicide Alertness for Everyone (safeTALK) – This three-hour workshop alerts individuals of warning signs that may indicate a risk of suicide.
- Mental Health First Aid (M.H.F.A.) – This two-day course will provide individuals with the skills necessary to help someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
The Corporate and Workplace Education Program is offered in collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, and Pine Ridge (C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.).
