The Crossover Youth program has been developed to help young people who face involvement in both the criminal justice and child welfare systems. The goal is to provide these ‘crossover youth’ with community services that may help to develop supports and skills for the future, with the hope that it will reduce the chances of these youth returning before the court again. Early intervention can help address concerns such as, but not limited to:
- Mental health, addictions/substance use
- Crisis intervention
- Appropriate bail conditions
- Housing and education
- Coordination between criminal and family court proceedings
With stronger community involvement and collaboration from the outset, we can provide youth with more support to reduce criminalization of young people and help assist with better outcomes.
Program Eligibility
- Youth between the ages of 12 and 17
- Youth that are involved in the Children’s Aid Society or the Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child and Family Services.
- Youth who are currently facing involvement with the criminal justice system (criminal charges, police contact).
