Date: September 10, 2022

The Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge (CMHA HKPR), Community Care Kawartha Lakes and the John Howard Society invite the public to attend a community resource session to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th at Victoria Park in Lindsay from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Approximately 4,000 Canadians die by suicide each year and it is the second-most common cause of death among young people ages 15 to 24. Among adults in Canada, the prevalence of suicidal ideation since the pandemic began was 4.2%, which was significantly higher than the pre-pandemic prevalence of 2.7% in 2019.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes, the John Howard Society, and CMHA HKPR are hosting information tables with hopes to provide information on the supports that are available in our region. World Suicide Prevention Day raises awareness about suicide, mental health concerns and suicide prevention.

“We want people who have been impacted by suicide or are struggling with thoughts of suicide to know that there is help available in our area. All you need to do is to ask. Everyone is welcome at the event on September 10th ,” says Jack Veitch, Manager of Community Engagement and Education with CMHA HKPR.

Individuals experiencing a mental health crisis are encouraged to contact Four County Crisis at 705-745-6484 or toll-free at 1-866-995-9933.

For more information on the event, please contact Jack Veitch at 705-748-6687 extension 1015 or email jveitch@cmhahkpr.ca.
