On Wednesday, November 20th, the Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge’s (C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R.’s) Gender Journeys team invites the public to gather at a candlelight vigil to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance from 6:45 to 7:00 p.m. at Emmanuel United Church, 534 George Street North. The candlelight vigil will be followed by a celebration and social from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Gender Journeys, a service through C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R., provides programming, education, and support for those who are transgender, 2-spirit, gender diverse and individuals who are questioning their gender identity.

The evening aims to honor those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender violence and discrimination, to bring awareness to the continued violence that transgender and gender diverse individuals endure (especially trans women of colour), and to celebrate the strength and resilience of our communities.

The candlelight vigil is in honour of the lives that have been lost, and those who are still with us today. Following the vigil, individuals are invited to enjoy a free vegetarian meal, as well as music and an open mic.

All who wish to attend this free event are welcome. The event is all ages and all spaces are accessible and scent-free.
