C.M.H.A. takes a stand for Zero Discrimination Day

C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. is encouraging Ontarians to take a stand for equitable access to mental health and addictions care for Zero Discrimination day.
Held annually on March 1, Zero Discrimination Day is an annual campaign which aims to celebrate diversity and reject discrimination in all its forms. C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. recognizes that stigma and discrimination is a reality for many people with a mental illness or mental health concerns.

Recently, C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. received funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation for our Gender Journeys program. Gender Journeys supports transgender individuals as they develop important social connections through their peers, families, allies, service providers and employers. You can learn more here.

Discrimination does not have to be intentional. It can also take place in more subtle ways. Sometimes rules, standards, policies or requirements can also have an adverse effect on people who live with mental health or addiction disabilities. For example, government policies or spending decisions may appear neutral but have a direct negative impact on the individuals who need service, often impeding their access to care.

Through the Erase the Difference campaign, C.M.H.A. Ontario is working to send a strong message to provincial election candidates that it’s time to eliminate this barrier and fund mental health and addictions care the same as physical health care. Help promote equitable access to care by signing the petition at erasethedifference.ca.
